Startup office and accomodation in
the Mallorca countryside, made of
two recycled shipping containers
‘I have long be fascinated by modular building meth - ods and the use of shipping containers in particular.’ Mathias Koester Mathias Koester has always had a special interest in modular building techniques as first shown in his award winning student diploma featuring modular explorer docks in the Hamburg Harbour as well as the long collaboration in Richard Rogers London office. His move to Mallorca triggered this project as a potential option for temporary accommodation and the initial set up for his office near Palma. Made of two standard 40ft containers, the central circulation gap with transparent polycarbonate roofing much improves the spaces for the office, dining and lounge areas. To one side the container walls are largely opened and replaced by timber bi-folding doors that lead to a covered terrace with further enhances the spacious feel of the container housing.
